Finally!

At last, you can now kill and be killed in multiplayer on Minecraft-servers. Hopefully this will mean that you'll soon be able to play custom games like Capture the Flag, or just play some regular Survival with your friends.

Personally I'm the most excited about finally being able to explore, craft and hunt down those damned creepers with my friends. I really enjoy Survival the most, building huge stuff is also fun, but it doesn't cater to me in the same way.

I might throw up a server that anyone may join if there's any interest.

Another Black Ops-vid and some Avenged Sevenfold

By the same dude who made the last video, here's another great demonstration of the sniper's power:

And here's some decent live footage from the Avenged Sevenfold-concert I went to:

As you can see (and hear), the concert was awesome. Pretty much everyone in the audience was singing along, and they promised to come here on their next tour too.
Let's just hope they remember that!

Black Ops-server

So I've been thinking about getting a Black Ops server for me on my friends, so that we won't have to deal with being assigned to different teams all the time. Does anyone here have a Black Ops-server running, since I'd love to get some pointers on how to set it up?

On a related note, here's an awesome video I found from another swede.
The claymore kill at 0:35 is king.

Dungeons & Dragons Online

Today I'll make a short post.

I just want to tip you guys off on a decent free MMO, Dungeons & Dragons Online. As you can tell, it's based off the Dungeon & Dragons old-school RPG and it's made by Lord of the Rings Online-creators Turbine. It's pretty much your standard MMORPG, but the combat-system is a little different. Although it's nowhere near revolutionizing, it's good enough for something to play with your friends when you're bored.
You can get the game for free here.

Nostalgia: Heroes III

Games these days are great. Technology has improved so much in the last ten years, it's kind of hard to imagine the technology we'll have at our disposal in 2020. Since it's birth, gaming has evolved from 2D games to 3D games (and with some geeky glasses, "real" 3D), from sprites to polygons and models, from being confined to arcades and bowling alleys to having a place in most people's homes.

But even though the present and future technology is amazing, sometimes I can't help but look back towards my early days of gaming. Playing Nintendo with my brother. Installing as many demos I could find because I didn't have the money to buy real games. Playing online multiplayer for the first time. There are just so many fond memories, and this blogpost is going to be about one of the games I really enjoyed; Heroes of Might and Magic III.

If you've played any HoMM game at all, you know the concept. You control a hero who leads an army, which can consist of anything from ogres and eagles to golems and genies. The battlemap is made up hexagonal tiles on which you move around your forces and make epic strategical decisions. In the cities, you recruit new heroes and monsters and on the world map you can find treasures and move your units.

The game came out eleven years ago, but for me, it's just one of those games that will never get old. I just have too many crazy memories of playing hotseat with my brother, trying out different cities and generally having a great time. A funny thing though is that I've never actually finished a multiplayer game. Me and my brother never got the time to finish it in one sitting because we had a rule to always eradicate the CPU-controlled armies first. Then we just kind of always wanted to start a new game the next time we sat down to play. My goal is to finish a multiplayer game with my brother, and I hope to achieve it one day.

So that's one of the games I loved to play as a little kid. Now, what about you?

A Great Let's Play on Minecraft

If you're not familiar with the term "Let's Play", here's a description I shamelessly stole from the Something Aweful forums:

Q: What is a Let's Play (LP) thread?
A: It's a documented playthrough of something that, at the very minimum, resembles a game; how the author chooses to present it is incredibly varied. Some use screenshots, some use video. Some let the readers make decisions, others plow on through and use the thread for discussion. Some are serious and informative while others are parodies.

I personally enjoy LPs a lot, since they give you a lot of knowledge about a plethora of different games while they're also usually quite funny with lots of witty remarks and the likes.
The one I'm going to show you is an LP of the video variety that follows a player through his journeys in Minecraft, starting off with nothing but two, err... one empty hand, he eventually builds a cave system known as "the X system", colonizes the Death Mountain, and visits the Nether. It's a great series for everyone, Minecraft newbs and nerds alike. Without further ado, I present to you X's Adventures in Minecraft, episode 1:

Except for Minecraft, davidr64yt (or X), also posts loads of videos on Starcraft and sometimes does playthroughs of other games, like Duke Nukem 3D and Half-Life 2. If you enjoy any of these games, I recommend you check him out.

Legend of Zelda-style Hookshot for Minecraft

So I noticed I've been writing a lot about Black Ops lately and thought I'd even things out a little bit with an awesome mod for Minecraft.

The mod can be found here, and the concept of it is basically the same as in most LoZ-games; you shoot it at something and you get propelled to the object. While handy for getting where you want, you can also launch yourself extremely far up in the air, inevitably leading to your death. You can also use it against those pesky skeletons that are bugging you from range, launching you into melee range of them.

Be aware though, without good aiming skills, you're pretty much guaranteed to end up like Icarus.

TotalBiscuit on Black Ops

You may already have heard of him, but one of my favourite YouTube users is the tea-drinking maniac known as TotalBiscuit. He plays a lot of different games and is currently in the process of commentating a Starcraft II contest called SHOUTcraft and releasing lots and lots of videos featuring the Cataclysm beta. So if you're a Blizzard fan you should definitely check it out.

But since I'm currently quite addicted to Treyarchs new Call of Duty-game, I'm going to link to his video that explains a little bit about the game in his usual fashion.
Enjoy.

Just Finished the Black Ops Campaign..

... and it was certainly just as awesome as the title of this blog.
I don't want to spoil anything, but the ending was awesome. Also quite similar to a certain movie that starts with F... I do recommend that you play it on at least hardened though, it's not quite as fun if you don't ever have to stop to take cover, like in Medal of Honor (don't get me started).

The latest patch also seems to have fixed my lag in multiplayer, so it's back to fraging for me!

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 Team Is Crowdsourcing

I just read an article on Kotaku and thought I'd share it with you guys.

On this facebook page, everyone interested can make their submission for the story of an in-game quest that might be implemented into the game. I think this is really interesting, especially for a game with such a vibrant community as the S.T.A.L.K.E.R-franchise. I've only played the first installment, but it really was a blast, especially with the right mods.

If you haven't tried the game already, I recommend picking it up, it's bound to cost like 10$ max and if you buy it second-hand it will be even cheaper. Then install the Oblivion Lost mod and enjoy!

Black Ops Lag

As you may or may not know, the latest Call of Duty installment is prone to lagging quite a lot in multiplayer.
Hopefully Treyarch will be able to solve this shortly, but in the meantime try this:

  1. Start Steam and CoD: Black Ops
  2. Alt-Tab out of the game and open the task manager
  3. Find the two processes for steam and CoD
  4. Right-click and set the priority for CoD to high and the priority for Steam to low
  5. Play, hopefully with reduced lag
It's also said that the latest patch has solved some of the problems, but I haven't gotten the time to try it out yet.

Minecraft

Some people may already know about my addiction to this lovely game, but for those who have never heard of it before, here's a short description of an average session:

  • Start new game
  • Find yourself on an island, start chopping down wood
  • Make some tools out of stone
  • Start digging for coal, forget about how much time has passed
  • Come back to the surface, realize it's night
  • CREEPERS, CREEPERS EVERYWHERE
  • Dig hole and sit cowering in it for the rest of the night

Then you do it all again.

No, but it's seriously a great game, with awesome music by C418. It's such a liberating experience, just discovering new areas, building massive and totally unnecessary buldings, and fighting monsters like a real champ.

If you're still not convinced, watch this:

Black Ops

So I just bought this. RC-explosives or dogs?

Discuss.
